The purpose of the soan style tea ceremony is to celebrate the beauty of the rustic, the imperfect, the unprepared enjoyment of natural things. Therefore, in tea many of the objects used are made of materials common in Japan, such as wood, bamboo, ceramics, paper and cloth. In addition, the rooms are often rustic, made of mud walls, wood and bamboo.
